Wir trauern um Barbara Frischmuth.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mit ihr verliert \u00d6sterreich eine seiner gr\u00f6\u00dften Autorinnen, wir bei den\u00a0manuskripten<\/em>\u00a0verlieren unsere \u00e4lteste und treueste Freundin.<\/p>\n

Barbara Frischmuth begleitete unsere Zeitschrift seit ihrer Gr\u00fcndung vor 65 Jahren. Mit Alfred Kolleritsch war sie sogar schon davor in engem Austausch. Sie geh\u00f6rte jenem legend\u00e4ren Grazer Zirkel rund um die Urania an, dessen Mitglieder sich Ende der 1950er gegenseitig die von Schulen und Universit\u00e4ten ignorierte modernere Literatur n\u00e4herbrachten. Barbaras Fachgebiet war, wie sie auch in sp\u00e4teren Jahren gerne erz\u00e4hlte, das Werk Else Lasker-Sch\u00fclers.
\nDie Zeitschrift\u00a0reflexe<\/em>, die sie gemeinsam mit Peter Straschek 1959-1960 herausgab, mag mit ihrem \u201eweit \u00fcber das Regionale hinausgehenden Anspruch\u201c (Alfred Kolleritsch) sogar als Inspiration f\u00fcr die\u00a0manuskripte<\/em>\u00a0gedeutet werden.
\nIm Laufe der Jahre schenkte sie der Zeitschrift knapp 50 Beitr\u00e4ge, deren formale Vielfalt (Gedichte, Essays, Erz\u00e4hlungen, Romanausz\u00fcge, Fabeln, Reden \u2026) die enorme Vielseitigkeit ihres so umfangreichen literarischen Werkes spiegelt. Ihr erster Text f\u00fcr die manuskripte<\/em> erschien in Ausgabe 5, ihr j\u00fcngster\u00a0in der aktuellen Ausgabe 247<\/a>\u00a0(eine Erz\u00e4hlung aus ihrem zeitgleich bei Residenz erschienenen Buch \u201eDie Sch\u00f6nheit der Tag- und Nachtfalter\u201c). Auch das Profil des von Hans Roth 2011 gestifteten rotahorn-Preises pr\u00e4gte sie als Jury-Mitglied durch ihr scharfsinniges Urteil und ihre pr\u00e4gnanten Formulierungen in den Jurybegr\u00fcndungen wesentlich mit.<\/p>\n

Am meisten habe ich an Barbara Frischmuth immer ihren Mut bewundert. So gelang es ihr etwa schon als Teenagerin, sich in den damals fast ausschlie\u00dflich m\u00e4nnlich dominierten intellektuellen Kreisen von Graz Respekt zu verschaffen. Und mit nicht einmal Zwanzig studierte sie \u2013 als einzige Frau \u2013 T\u00fcrkisch an der Atat\u00fcrk Universit\u00e4t in Erzurum in Ostanatolien (s. den Roman\u00a0Das Verschwinden des Schattens\u00a0<\/em>in der Sonne, Aufbau 2000).
\nEbenso unerschrocken entdeckungsfreudig zeigte sich die Autorin in der Wahl ihrer literarischen Formen. Auf die fr\u00fchen radikal experimentellen Texte folgte der Bestseller\u00a0Die Klosterschule<\/em>, sp\u00e4ter erfand sie gleich mehrere Gattungen neu, darunter die Feengeschichte (Die Mystifikationen der Sophie Silber<\/em>) oder auch das Gartenbuch, das dem hochaktuellen umweltpolitischen Engagement bzw. Nature Writing ihres Sp\u00e4twerks den Weg ebnete.
\nImmer wieder wagte sich Barbara Frischmuth \u2013 gerade mit ihren Tierfabeln, ihren Puppenspielen und Jugendb\u00fcchern \u2013 \u00fcber den Horizont ihrer Peer Group hinaus, oft genug gelang es ihr, den weiteren, toleranteren Blick, der mit ihrer avantgardistischen Risikofreude einherging, einem breiteren Publikum nahezubringen.<\/p>\n

Die \u00f6sterreichische Literatur verdankt Barbara Frischmuth viel mehr, als ihr bislang bewusst ist.
\nOder, wie Alfred Kolleritsch \u00fcber seine enge Freundin sagte: \u201eMit ihrer Welt weitete sich auch die unsere aus.\u201c<\/p>\n
